Q.1 : What is HTML?

HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. HTML is the language of the World Wide Web. HTML is the standard text formatting language that is used for creating and displaying web pages on the Web. HTML is a combination of content and the tags that formats content for proper display on web page.

Q.2 : What is Hyper Text means?

Hyper Text means "Text within Text". A text has a link within it, is a hypertext. When you click on a word which brings you to a new web page, you have clicked on a hypertext.

Markup language: A programming language that is used to format text to make it more interactive and dynamic. It can turn a image as a link or button, text into images, tables, links etc.

Q.3 : What are tags in HTML?

HTML tags are used to beautify content formating. HTML tags are composed of 3 things

  • Opening Tag
  • Content 
  • Closing Tag

Content is placed in between HTML tags to display formated data on the web page. Tags use less than symbol (<) and the greater than symbol (>) along with "/" symbol.

W3C recommends lowercase in HTML, and demands lowercase for stricter document types like XHTML.

Q.4 : Do all HTML tags come in pair?

No, all HTML tags does not come in pair. Few HTML tags comes in pair and other HTML tags are single, that does not need closing tags.

HTML elements with no content are called empty elements. Empty elements do not have an end tag, such as the <br> element.
